LAWRENCE — Fire destroyed a home at 71 Saunders St. in the Arlington neighborhood early yesterday.
No injuries were reported, Deputy Chief James Moffat said yesterday.
Firefighters arrived to find the 21/2-story home completely in flames. Two occupants got out safely before firefighters arrived.
Deputy Chief John Marsh struck a third alarm, bringing more manpower and water to the scene.
Two dozen firefighters worked for three hours to bring the blaze under control. Despite their efforts, the home collapsed due to fire damage.
"The house is destroyed," Moffat said.
Minor damage was reported to a car parked nearby and also to an adjacent home.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation yesterday.
Police Officer Timothy Yerian arrived with Engine 7 at the fire yesterday morning.
"I could see flames coming from the left side of the house (porch)," Yerian wrote in a police report.
He radioed for more help to block off intersections and assist with crowd control.
Yerian also said that during the fire he could hear small explosions.
