Robert W. Stoney

LAWRENCE -- Robert W. Stoney, 80, a lifelong resident of the city, died yesterday at his home. Mr. Stoney attended Wentworth Institute. He was a firefighter for the city, retiring in 1981. A member of Grace Episcopal Church, Mr. Stoney served in the Coast Guard during World War II as senior chief petty officer. He was also a member of Retired Firefighters Local 146. The widower of Grace (Moriarty), he leaves his son James W. and wife Ruthann of Lawrence; daughters and sons-in-law Joan and Richard MacLeod of Florida, Rosemary and Frederick Knox of Methuen, Carole of Lawrence, and Roberta and Cary  McDermott of Lawrence; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Lawrence, MA 01843; or to Grace Episcopal Church, 35 Jackson St., Lawrence, MA 01843.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours are tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Hart-Wallace Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway. His funeral there will be Tuesday at 9 a.m., followed by funeral services at 10 a.m. in Grace Episcopal Church. Burial will be private.
