Robert D. Stella
LAWRENCE — Mr. Robert D. Stella, 76, of Lawrence, husband of Jean M. (Gilchrist) Stella, died Sunday evening, April 5, 2009 at home, surrounded by his family.
Born and raised in Lawrence, he was the son of the late Raphael and Adeline (Guido) Stella. He received his education in the Lawrence school system and graduated from Lawrence High School, Class of 1950. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Korean War aboard the USS William Wood, as a member of the United States Navy.
Mr. Stella had been employed for over 20 years as a firefighter for the City of Lawrence until the time of his retirement in 1992.
A lifelong resident of the City of Lawrence, he was a member of the Firefighter's Relief Association. A dedicated husband, father and grandfather, he will be missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Christine Stella of Lawrence, two sons, Robert A. Stella of Lawrence and Gene Stella of Merrimacport, two grandchildren, Rachael Jessie and Stefaney Stella, several nieces and nephews. He was also the grandfather of the late Robert A. Stella Jr. and brother of the late Alfred Stella.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen, MA 01844. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at the Bellevue Cemetery, 170 May St., Lawrence.
