Henry M. McGuire

LONDONDERRY, N.H. -- Henry M. McGuire of Londonderry, formerly of Lawrence, Mass., died Sunday, Jan. 26, at home following a lengthy illness.
A Lawrence firefighter for 36 years, he was the only surviving brother of five, all of whom proudly served the Lawrence Fire Department and in the U.S. military during World War II.
Born in Lawrence, he received his high school education in Tyngsboro, Mass., at Marist Brothers Seminary and continued his studies at Marist College in Poughkeepsee, N.Y.
Following service in the U.S. Merchant Marines, he and his brothers were appointed to the Lawrence Fire Department in 1948, where he served the Lawrence community, eventually becoming captain of Ladder Company 4.
He was also an active member of St. Anne's Parish, where he was chosen PTA member of the year in 1972. An avid sailor and camping enthusiast, he was also a skilled carpenter and catered parties at St. Anne's Parish functions and for the Fireman's Relief Inn club, which he helped found and served as a member of the board of directors.
He is survived by his wife Theresa L. (Retelle) of Londonderry; sons Maurice G. of Haverhill, Mass., Kenneth R. of Anson, Maine, William A. of Los Angeles, John J. of Haverhill, and Robert P. of Nashua; daughters Kathleen T. of Conway, Deb Tesoro and her husband Butch of Sandown and Theresa Harkins and her husband Clayton Harkins of New Boston; sisters Juliet Belair and Theresa Trenholm of Salem; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Richard P. McGuire.
Relatives and friends may call tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Pollard Funeral Home, 223 Lawrence St., Methuen, Mass. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Lawrence, followed by a burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
