Alphonse J. Bolis

LAWRENCE -- Alphonse J. Bolis, 86, died yesterday at home.

Born in Lawrence, he graduated from Lawrence High School, Class of 1934.

He worked in the local textile mills and then at Engine 3 of the Lawrence Fire Department.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the Navy in the South Pacific and received the Asiatic-Pacific Decoration with 13 stars.

He was a member of St. Francis Church, St. Francis Holy Name Society, Lawrence Local 146 of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts, the International Association of Firefighters, Relief's Inn, Lawrence Firefighters Retirees Association, Lawrence Firefighters Mutual Relief Association, Lawrence Firefighters Credit Union, Lawrence Lodge of Elks, B.P.O.E. 65, the Retired State, County, and Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts and the Concordia Club.

Widower of Mary M. (Dunn) Bolis, he leaves daughter Ellen M. Schruender and husband George H. of North Andover; son Joseph D. of Lawrence; brother Raymond D. of York Beach, Maine; sister Virginia Molloy of Lawrence; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Michael's Church, 196 Main St., North Andover, MA 01845.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours are tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Boles Memorial-Baron-McAuliffe-Yameen Funeral Home, 184 Jackson St., Lawrence. A funeral Mass will be Tuesday at 12 p.m. at St. Michael's Church, North Andover. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence.
